Abstract
A phenylcyclohexene of the formula ##STR1## wherein n is 1 or 2, X is --H, --R, --OR, --OCOR, --OCOOR, --CF.sub.3 or --F, and when n is 1, X can also be ##STR2## R is alkyl of 1-8 C atoms and when two R groups are present they can be the same or different, has valuable liquid crystalline properties.

In an electrooptical display including a liquid crystalline material, the improvement wherein the liquid crystalline material comprises at least one compound of the formula ##STR15## wherein n is 1 or 2, X is --H, --R, --OR, --OCOR, --OCOOR, --CF.sub.3 or --F and R is alkyl of 1-8 C atoms and when two R groups are present they can be the same or different.
In a liquid crystalline dielectric comprising at least two liquid crystalline components, the improvement wherein at least one component is a compound of the formula ##STR20## wherein n is 1 or 2, X is --H, --R, --OR, --OCOR, --OCOOR, --CF.sub.3 or --F and R is alkyl of 1-8 C atoms and when two R groups are present they can be the same or different.
