Abstract
Phenol and acetone are produced by the cleavage of cumene hydroperoxide in the presence of a solid heterogeneous catalyst with acidic activity comprising an intermediate pore size zeolite such as ZSM-5.
Claims7
A process for the production of phenol and acetone which comprises contacting cumene hydroperoxide with a catalyst comprising a crystalline zeolite having a Constraint Index of 1 to 12 and a silica:alumina ratio of at least 12:1.
