Abstract
New quinone compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is methyl or methoxy and Y is formyl, carboxyl, an alkoxycarbonyl having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, carbamoyl, a mono- or di- alkylcarbamoyl whose alkyl moiety has 1 to 4 carbon atoms or carbamoyloxymethyl, or their hydroquinone-form compounds, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, have useful physiological activities such as antiasthmatic and antiallergic activities.

A compound of the formula:
- ##STR12## wherein R is methyl or methoxy and
- Y is formyl, carboxyl, an alkoxycarbonyl having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, carbamoyl, a mono- or dialkylcarbamoyl whose alkyl moiety has 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or carbamoyloxymethyl, or
- its hydroquinone-form compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A pharmaceutical composition suitable for suppressing the generation and release of SRS-A, which comprises as an active ingredient, an effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- ##STR13## wherein R is methyl or methoxy and
- Y is formyl, carboxyl, an alkoxycarbonyl having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, carbamoyl, a mono- or dialkylcarbamoyl whose alkyl moiety has 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or carbamoyloxymethyl, or
- its hydroquinone-form compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient therefor.
