A tool for driving uncollated nails includes a tool body with a nose portion defining a drive track wherein a driver blade moves in drive and return strokes. A magazine carried by the body supports a row of nails, and a pusher urges the nails along a feed path toward the drive track. The magazine is adjustable for tailoring the feed path width to the nail size. Individual nails are advanced from the magazine to a drive position in the drive track by an escapement mechanism operated in timed relationship with the driver blade, and an advanced nail is held in the drive position by a magnet assembly supported by the tool nose portion. Nails are positively advanced and are properly oriented by the escapement mechanism independently of the number of nails, the pusher force, or other conditions in the magazine. The tool magazine is quickly and conveniently loaded with nails supplied in an oriented condition from a loading chute. The loading operation is automatic in response to engagement of the magazine with the chute, and does not require awkward manipulation of the pusher. Coupling members on the magazine and on the chute are mated by means of ramp and guide structures. In the mated position, stops in the nail path are opened to permit nails to slide from the chute into the magazine.
A fastener driving tool for uncollated fasteners having heads and shanks comprising a tool body including a drive track, a driver blade movable in the drive track, an escapement mechanism for advancing single fasteners into the drive track, and a magazine for feeding a row of fasteners to the escapement mechanism, said magazine including an elongated base frame member having a similar cross section throughout its length, a fastener head slideway defined by an upper portion of said frame member, a depending portion of said frame member supporting a first guide for one side of the fastener shanks, an elongated tubular member supported on the opposite side of said shanks defining a second guide for the opposite side of the fastener shanks, and means including a pair of eccentric support members engaging the ends of said tubular member for mounting said tubular member for movement toward and away from said first guide upon rotation of said tubular member.
A fastener driving tool for uncollated fasteners having heads and shanks comprising a tool body including a drive track, a driver blade movable in the drive track, an escapement mechanism for advancing single fasteners into the drive track, and a magazine for holding a supply of fasteners to be fed to the escapement mechanism, said magazine including guide structure defining an elongated fastener feed path extending from an end of the magazine to said escapement mechanism, said feed path terminating at a fastener loading opening at said magazine end, a pusher slidably mounted on said magazine for movement along said feed path, biasing means urging said pusher toward said escapment mechanism, pawl means mounted on said pusher for movement relative to said pusher into and out of said feed path and resiliently biased into said feed path, and a cam surface on said pawl means for moving said pawl means out of said feed path in response to engagement with fasteners in said feed path when said pusher is retracted toward said fastener loading opening.
A fastener driving tool for driving fasteners having heads and shanks into a workpiece comprising a tool body including a nose portion defining a drive track, said nose portion being of nonmagnetic material, a driver blade movable in the drive track, feeder means for advancing single fasteners into a feed position defined in the drive track, a magazine for holding a supply of fasteners to be fed to said feeder means, and a magnet assembly disposed adjacent said drive position for holding a fastener in said drive position, said magnet assembly including two magnets supported by said nose portion in locations spaced apart along said drive track, first ends of said magnets being disposed adjacent the opposite ends of a fastener in the drive position, said magnet assembly further including a clamping member of magnetic material bridging second ends of said magnets and cooperating with said magnets to define a generally U-shaped magnetic circuit.
A fastener driving tool for driving fasteners having shanks and points into a workpiece, said tool comprising a tool body including a nose portion, a fastener drive path defined in said nose portion and extending to an exit end adjacent a workpiece engaging end of the nose portion, a driver blade movable in a drive stroke through said drive track toward said workpiece engaging end to drive a fastener into the workpiece, a magazine including means for holding a supply of fastners, feeding means for advancing single fasteners from said magazine to said drive track, a drop-off member supported adjacent the workpiece engaging end of said nose portion, said drop-off member being mounted for pivotable movement and normally being held by gravity in a normal position coinciding with a wall of the exit end said drive track and stop means for preventing movement of said drop-off member into said drive track.
A power tool for driving uncollated fasteners having shanks and heads into a workpiece, said tool comprising:
