An ice product is disclosed having improved liquid displacement characteristics and which is of a configuration which provides for splash resistance and resistance to bridging between adjacently stored products. The apparatus and method for producing the improved ice product is disclosed in the form of an ice making machine having one or more combination evaporator and ice form assemblies, each of the assemblies being provided with a plurality of pockets or recesses in which the ice product is formed during a freezing or refrigeration cycle, the ice products being subsequently discharged to an associated storage area during a subsequent harvest cycle. In a preferred construction of the present invention, the combination evaporator and ice form assemblies are arranged in a generally vertical orientation and ice makeup water is communicated to a manifold arrangement disposed above each of the assemblies, which water is intended to cascade over the surfaces of the ice forms and freeze within the pockets or recesses therein. The combination evaporator and ice form assemblies are designed such that a unique heat transfer is effected between the evaporator coils and the water freezing within the ice pockets, whereby substantially symmetrically-shaped ice products are formed within the pockets.
An ice making machine comprising:
An evaporator for a device for producing a consumable ice product, said evaporator comprising
An evaporator for a device for producing a consumable ice product, said evaporator comprising
An evaporator for a device for producing a consumable ice product, said evaporator comprising at least one generally vertically arranged structure having a series of generally parallel arranged refrigerant conduit sections, means for serially connecting said conduit sections whereby a heat transfer refrigerant may flow sequentially therethrough, means including a body of relatively heat insulating material in part defining a plurality of rows of open and alternately oppositely facing ice forming recesses each having an interior ice forming half-surface of a generally arcuate cross-sectional shape generally complementary to one side of the ice product to be formed therein, said refrigerant conduit being disposed generally adjacent said ice forming half-surfaces and cooperable with said relatively heat insulating material but being spaced from said ice forming half-surfaces a distance generally in inverse relation to the thickness of the ice product formed within said recesses, whereby water introduced into said recesses will be frozen into discrete and separate ice products each having a pair of symmetrical first and second sides both of which being generally complementary in shape to the respective interior half-surfaces of the respective ice forming recesses.
An apparatus for producing a plurality of substantially identical ice products, said apparatus comprising:
An ice making machine comprising,
An ice making machine comprising:
An ice making machine having at least one combination evaporator and ice form said ice making machine comprising,
An ice making machine comprising:
