Abstract
An adsorbent composition consisting essentially of (i) about 5 to about 95% by weight of a hydrotalcite compound represented by the following formula (1) (M.sup.2+).sub.x Al.sub.2 (OH).sub.2x+6-ny (A.sup.n-).sub.y.mH.sub.2 O (1) wherein M.sup.2+ represents Mg.sup.2+ and/or Zn.sup.2+, A.sup.n- represents an anion having a valence of n, and x, y and m are numbers which satisfy the following conditions x.gtoreq.1, 0<y<2, m>0, or a product of calcination at a temperature of up to about 800.degree. C. of said hydrotalcite compound, and (ii) about 95 to about 5% by weight of activated carbon.

- (M.sup.2+).sub.x Al.sub.2 (OH).sub.2x+6-ny (A.sup.n-).sub.y.mH.sub.2 O (1)
- wherein
- M.sup.2+ represents Mg.sup.2+ and/or Zn.sup.2+, A.sup.n- represents an anion having a valence of n, and
- x, y and m are numbers which satisfy the following conditions
- x.gtoreq.1, 0<y<2, m>0,
- or a product of calcination at a temperature of up to about 800.degree. C. of said hydrotalcite compound, and (ii) about 95 to about 5% by weight of activated carbon.
