Abstract
This invention relates to a one step process of oxidizing a natural or synthetic non-benzenoid hydrocarbon wax in the presence of a metal oxide or hydroxide, such as potassium, sodium or lithium oxide or hydroxide, and to the product formed by such oxidation.
Claims12
A one step process which comprises oxidizing a natural or synthetic non-benzenoid hydrocarbon wax having, prior to oxidation, a molecular weight of about 300 to 5000 and a melting point of about 110.degree. F. to 300.degree. F., said process consisting essentially of (1) adding about 12 to 50 acid number equivalents of a Group IA metal oxide or hydroxide to said wax;
- and (2) oxidizing the wax at about 200.degree. F. to 450.degree. F. for at least five hours and terminating the oxidation when the product has an alkalinity of greater than about 1.
