Abstract
Benzene derivatives useful as a component of liquid crystal compositions are provided which are expressed by the general formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; R' represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and ##STR2## represents ##STR3## The derivatives exhibit small values of positive dielectric anisotropy; have broader liquid crystal temperature ranges; and in particular, have higher liquid crystalline-transparent points and yet have lower viscosities.
Claims5
A benzene derivative expressed by the formula ##STR12## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms;
- R' represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms;
- ##STR13## represents ##STR14## and wherein either one of R or R' must be an alkyl or alkoxy group.
A 4-Substituted or unsubstituted-[trans-4'-(trans-4"-alkylcyclohexyl)cyclohexyl]benzene expressed by the formula ##STR15## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms;
- R' represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and wherein either one of R or R' must be an alkyl or alkoxy group.
A 4-Substituted or unsubstituted-[4'-(trans-4"-alkylcyclohexyl)cyclohexen-1'-yl]benzene expressed by the formula ##STR16## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms;
- R' represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and wherein either one of R or R' must be an alkyl or alkoxy group.
