Abstract
An electrode for use as a cathode in a chloralkali cell or a water electrolysis cell comprises an electrically-conductive matrix having a very low metal loading surface electrocatalytic noble metal-containing deposit which may be prepared by a displacement deposition technique.
Claims5
A cathode suitable for use in a chloralkali process, the cathode comprising an electrolytic deposit of platinum and ruthenium having a roughness factor of at least 100 cm.sup.2 /cm.sup.2 of geometric surface area, wherein the deposit is carried on an electrically conductive matrix and is selected from a group consisting of mixtures or alloys of platinum and ruthenium.
