Abstract
[1,1'-Biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl pyrethroid esters, as well as processes, uses, and intermediates thereto, are disclosed. The [1,1'-biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl pyrethroid esters control a broad spectrum of insects as well as acarids.

A substituted [1,1'-biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate of the formula ##STR6## wherein b is 0, A is fluoro, a is 3 or 4 and R is selected from 3-(2,2-dichloroethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl, 3-(2,2-dibromoethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl, 3-(2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl, and 3-(3-chloro-2,3,3-trifluoro-1-propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl.
(2-Methyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-yl)methyl 2-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenylamino)-3-methylbutanoate.
(2,4-Dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-yl)methyl 2-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenylamino)-3-methylbutanoate.
A substituted [1,1'-biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate of the formula ##STR7## wherein b is 0, a is 4, A is fluoro and R is selected from 2,2,3,3-tetramethylcyclopropyl, 2,2-dichloro-3,3-dimethylcyclopropyl, 3-cyclopentylidenemethyl-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl, 3-(2-methyl-1-propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl, and 3-(1,2-dibromo-2,2-dichloroethyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl.
An insecticidal or acaricidal composition comprising an insecticidally or acaricidally effective amount of (2-methyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-yl)methyl 2-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenylamino)-3-methylbutanoate in admixture with an agriculturally acceptable carrier.
A method of controlling insects or acarids which comprises applying to the locus where control is desired an insecticidally or acaricidally effective amount of (2-methyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-yl)methyl 2-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenylamino)-3-methylbutanoate.
An insecticidal or acaricidal composition comprising an insecticidally or acaricidally effective amount of (2,4-dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-yl)methyl 2-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenylamino)-3-methylbutanoate in admixture with an agriculturally acceptable carrier.
A method of controlling insects or acarids which comprises applying to the locus where control is desired an insecticidally or acaricidally effective amount of (2,4-dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-yl)methyl 2-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenylamino)-3-methylbutanoate.
