## Abstract

Hydrocarbons are converted by contacting them at hydrocarbon conversion conditions with a catalyst composite comprising from about 5 weight percent to about 95 weight percent of a silica polymorph consisting of crystalline silica, said silica polymorph after calcination in air at 600.degree. C. for one hour, having a mean refractive index of 1.39.+-.0.01 and a specific gravity at 25.degree. C. of 1.70.+-.0.05 g/cc and at least 5 weight percent to about 95 weight percent Ziegler alumina.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A process for the catalytic isomerization of a hydrocarbon which comprises contacting the hydrocarbon at hydrocarbon isomerization conditions with a catalytic composite comprising from about 5 weight percent to about 95 weight percent of a silica polymorph consisting of crystalline silica, said silica polymorph after calcination in air at 600.degree. C. for one hour, having a mean refractive index of 1.39.+-.0.01 and a specific gravity at 25.degree. C. of 1.70.+-.0.05 g/cc and at least 5 weight percent to about 95 weight percent Ziegler alumina.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The process of claim 1 wherein said isomerization conditions include a temperature of about 75.degree. F. to about 900.degree. F., a pressure from about atmospheric to about 100 atmospheres, a hydrogen to hydrocarbon mole ratio of about 0.5:1 to about 20:1 and a liquid hourly space velocity (LHSV) of about 0.2 to about 10.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The process of claim 1 wherein said hydrocarbon isomerization is conducted with a feedstock comprising paraffin hydrocarbons.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The process of claim 1 wherein said hydrocarbon isomerization is conducted with a feedstock comprising alkylaromatic hydrocarbons.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The process of claim 1 wherein said hydrocarbon isomerization is conducted with a feedstock comprising olefin hydrocarbons.
