## CPC

- H01M 6/48: with bipolar electrodes
- H01M 6/06: Dry cells, i.e. cells wherein the electrolyte is rendered non-fluid
- H01M: PROCESSES OR MEANS, e.g. BATTERIES, FOR THE DIRECT CONVERSION OF CHEMICAL ENERGY INTO ELECTRICAL ENERGY

## Abstract

Laminar electrical cells and batteries of the Leclanche type, in which the electrolyte comprises an aqueous solution containing from about 18 to about 22 percent of NH.sub.4 Cl and from about 25 to about 40 percent of ZnCl.sub.2 by weight, based on the weight of solution. The electrolyte may contain a gelling agent, and may initially contain a minor amount of mercuric chloride.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A battery of laminar series connected electrical cells, said cells each comprising a zinc anode, a manganese dioxide cathode, and an electrolyte comprising an aqueous solution of NH.sub.4 Cl and ZnCl.sub.2 containing from 18 to 22 percent NH.sub.4 Cl and from 25 to 40 percent ZnCl.sub.2 by weight based on the weight of solution.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The battery of claim 1, in which said electrolyte contains about 20 percent NH.sub.4 Cl and about 30 percent ZnCl.sub.2.

### Claim 3

A laminar electrical cell especially adapted for high current drains with variable duty cycles, comprising an anodic dispersion of zinc powder containing zinc oxide and adhered to a conductive plastic substrate with a binder, a cathodic dispersion of manganese dioxide and carbon particles in an aqueous electrolyte solution, and a separator between said anodic and cathodic dispersions, in which said electrolyte consists essentially of an aqueous solution of NH.sub.4 Cl and ZnCl.sub.2 containing from 18 to 22 percent of NH.sub.4 Cl and from 25 to 40 percent of ZnCl.sub.2 based on the weight of solution.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The cell of claim 3, in which said solution contains about 20 percent of NH.sub.4 Cl and about 30 percent of ZnCl.sub.2.
