## Abstract

A system and method for mixing gaseous fuel with air prior to combustion in an internal combustion engine. The system includes an L-shaped channel with a cap mounted to one end and an inlet formed at the other end. A plurality of holes is formed in the L-shaped channel. The channel is mounted to the air intake system of the internal combustion engine upstream from the air filter such that a partial vacuum is created in the vicinity of the holes as the incoming air flows past the channel. The channel includes means for regulating the flow of gaseous fuel through the channel.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A system for mixing gaseous fuel with air for subsequent combustion in an internal combustion engine comprising:
a gaseous fuel source;
means associated with said gaseous fuel source to supply gaseous fuel from said gaseous fuel source at atmospheric pressure;
an air intake system having an air inlet and an air intake conduit, said air intake conduit being in fluid communication with said air inlet at one end and with an air filter at the other end thereof; and
means for admitting gaseous fuel at atmospheric pressure into said air intake conduit for mixture with the incoming air as it passes through said air intake system and said air filter, said means comprising a fluid channel attached at one end thereof to said gaseous fuel source, and at least a portion of the other end of said channel being positioned within said air intake system upstream from said air filter, and said portion comprising fluid outlet means oriented within said air intake system such that a partial vacuum will be created in the vicinity of said fluid outlet means as incoming air flows past said fluid outlet means thereby to draw gaseous fuel into the air flowing past said fluid outlet means.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A system as defined in claim 1 wherein said fluid outlet means is formed in said channel so as to be opposite the surface of said channel first contacted by air passing through said air intake conduit.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A system as defined in claim 1 wherein said fluid outlet means comprises a plurality of holes vertically arranged along the side of said fluid channel.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A system as defined in claim 1 wherein said fluid outlet means comprises a plurality of holes horizontally arranged in said fluid channel relative to the air flow through said air intake conduit.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A system as defined in claim 1 wherein said fluid outlet means comprises a slit formed in said fluid channel.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A system as defined in claim 1 further comprising means for regulating the flow of gaseous fuel through said fluid channel.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

A system as defined in claim 1 wherein said fluid outlet means comprises at least one hole formed in said fluid channel at a position facing away from the surface of said fluid channel first contacted by air passing through said air intake conduit.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

A system as defined in claim 6 wherein said regulating means is an adjustable screw mounted to said fluid channel such that a portion of said screw is disposed within said fluid channel.

### Claim 9 (depends on 6)

A system as defined in claim 6 wherein said regulating means is a stopcock mounted to said fluid channel, said stopcock having a rotatable member disposed within said fluid channel with a bore formed therethrough.

### Claim 10

A system for mixing gaseous fuel with air for subsequent combustion in an internal combustion engine comprising:
a gaseous fuel source;
an air intake system having an air inlet and an air intake conduit, said air intake conduit being in fluid communication with said air inlet at one end thereof and being in fluid communication with an air filter at the other end thereof; and
means for admitting gaseous fuel at atmospheric pressure into said air intake conduit for mixture with the incoming air as it passes through said air intake conduit and said air filter, said means comprising a fluid channel mounted in said air intake conduit such that one end thereof extends below the air intake conduit and is attached to said gaseous fuel source, and the other end thereof extends above said air intake conduit and is enclosed by a cap, and the portion of said fluid channel situated within said air intake conduit comprising one or more small openings formed in said fluid channel and oriented such that a partial vacuum will be created in the vicinity of said openings as incoming air flows past the openings and through the air filter thereby to draw gaseous fuel into the air flowing past said openings.

### Claim 11

A system for mixing gaseous fuel with air for subsequent combustion in an internal combustion engine comprising:
a gaseous fuel source;
an air intake system having an air inlet and an air intake conduit, said air intake conduit being in fluid communication with said air inlet at one end thereof and with an air filter at the other end thereof; and
means for admitting gaseous fuel at atmospheric pressure into said air intake conduit for mixture with the incoming air as it passes through said air intake conduit and said air filter, said means comprising a fluid channel attached at one end to said gaseous fuel source, and the other end thereof being positioned within said air intake conduit upstream from said air filter, the end of said fluid channel that is positioned within said air intake conduit comprising one or more openings formed in said fluid channel and oriented within said air intake conduit such that a partial vacuum will be created in the vicinity of said openings as incoming air flows past said openings and through said air filter thereby to draw gaseous fuel into the air flowing past said openings.
