## Abstract

An addition polymer having a carbon-to-carbon backbone bearing at least two oxirane moieties per polymer molecule wherein the oxirane moieties are the reaction product of an isocyanate moiety and a glycidyl compound, such as glycidol, is readily cured to form a solid insoluble material.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An oxirane polymer having a carbon-to-carbon polymeric backbone bearing at least two oxirane moieties per polymer molecule wherein the oxirane moieties are represented by the formula: ##STR4## wherein R.sup.1 is alkylene or inertly substituted alkylene and each R.sup.2 is independently hydrogen, alkyl or inertly substituted alkyl.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The oxirane polymer of claim 1 wherein the oxirane moieties are represented by the formula: ##STR5## wherein R is alkylene or inertly substituted alkylene having 2 to 6 carbons.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The oxirane polymer of claim 2 wherein the oxirane moieties are represented by the formula: ##STR6##

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The oxirane polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is a self-crosslinking polymer which bears unreacted isocyanate moieties as well as the oxirane moieties.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The oxirane polymer of claim 2 wherein the polymer also bears unreacted isocyanate moieties represented by the formula: ##STR7##

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A curable composition comprising the polymer of claim 1 and an amount of an epoxy curing agent effective to cross-link the polymer to a water- and hydrocarbon-insoluble material.

### Claim 7 (depends on 2, 6)

The curable composition of claim 6 comprising the polymer of claim 2 and a curing agent which is a polyol or a polyamine.

### Claim 8

An oxirane polymer having a carbon-carbon polymeric backbone bearing at least two oxirane moieties per polymer molecule wherein the oxirane moieties are represented by the formula: ##STR8## in which R.sup.1 is a hydrogen or methyl group; R.sup.2 is an alkylene or inertly substituted alkylene having 2 to 6 carbon atoms; R.sup.3 is an alkylene or inertly substituted alkylene; and each R.sup.4 is independently hydrogen alkyl or inertly substituted alkyl and wherein the carbon-carbon double bond has been polymerized as part of the backbone of the polymer.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The polymer of claim 8 wherein R.sup.1 is a methyl group.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The polymer of claim 8 wherein R.sup.2 is ethyl; R.sup.3 is a methyl and each R.sup.4 is hydrogen.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The polymer of claim 8 wherein the polymer also bears unreacted isocyanate moieties.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

A curable composition comprising the polymer of claim 11 and an amount of an epoxy curing agent effective to cross-link the polymer to a water- and hydrocarbon-insoluble material.
