## Abstract

Metal mercaptides of the formula ##STR1## wherein Me is a metal, oxometal, alkoxymetal or organo-metal cation from the 1st-5th group of the periodic system, n is 0, 1 or 2, m is an integer from 1 to 4, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, alkyl, acyloxymethyl or alkoxymethyl, R.sup.2 is a sterically hindered phenol group, and R.sup.3 is a monovalent organic radical, are stabilizers for organic materials which are sensitive to heat and oxygen. They can be used in particular as stabilizers for chlorine-containing thermoplasts, for elastomers and for lubricants. Preferred cations are organotin cations.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A compound of the formula I or Ia ##STR25## wherein m is 0, 1 or 2, and n is an integer from 1 to 4, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, ##STR26## or --CH.sub.2 OR.sup.4, R.sup.2 is a group of the formula ##STR27## R.sup.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 -alkyl, CH.sub.3 COCH.sub.2 --, phenyl COCH.sub.2 --, phenyl,
C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 -phenylalkyl, vinyl or .alpha.-methylvinyl,
R.sup.4 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 -alkyl, cyclohexyl or benzyl,
R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl,
Me is the metal cation Na.sup.+, K.sup.+, Mg.sup.2+, Ca.sup.2+, Ba.sup.2+, Zn.sup.2+, Cd.sup.2+, Al.sup.3+, Sn.sup.4+, R.sup.7 Sn.sup.3+, (R.sup.7).sub.2 Sn.sup.2+, (R.sup.7).sub.3 Sn.sup.+, TiO.sup.2+, (R.sup.8 O).sub.2 Ti.sup.2+, ZrO.sup.2+, (R.sup.8 O).sub.2 Zr.sup.2+,VO.sup.3+ or Sb.sup.3+, R.sup.7 is C.sub.1-C.sub.12 alkyl or phenyl, and R.sup.8 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl.

A compound of the formula I or Ia according to claim 1, wherein Me is any one of the cations: Mg.sup.2+, Ca.sup.2+, Ba.sup.2+, Zn.sup.2+, R.sup.7 Sn.sup.3+, (R.sup.7).sub.2 Sn.sup.2+ or Sb.sup.3+, and R.sup.7 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkyl or phenyl.

A compound of the formula I according to claim 2, wherein Me is any one of the cations: R.sup.7 Sn.sup.3+, (R.sup.7).sub.2 Sn.sup.2+ or Sb.sup.3+, and R.sup.7 has the meaning defined in claim 2.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A compound of the formula I according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen, m is 2, R.sup.5 is methyl or tert-butyl, and R.sup.6 is tert-butyl.

A compound of any one of the following formulae according to claim 1: ##STR28##
