## Abstract

A method of increasing the yield of legumes (soybeans) utilizing a compound of the formula ##STR1## where R is chloromethyl or dichloromethyl; R.sup.1 is lower alkyl, vinyl or phenyl; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl and R.sup.3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of increasing the yield of legumes comprising applying thereto a yield-increasing amount of a compound of the formula ##STR6## wherein R is chloromethyl or dichloromethyl;
R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, vinyl or phenyl;
R.sup.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; and
R.sup.3 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the legume is soybeans.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2 wherein the yield-increasing amount of said compound is between about 1/32 to about 5 pounds per acre.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2 wherein the yield-increasing amount is applied between about 4 weeks prior to flowering of the soybeans plant and 2 weeks after said flowering.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2 wherein the yield-increasing amount of said compound is between about 1/16 to about 2 pounds per acre.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4 wherein the yield-increasing amount of said compound is between 1/16 to about 2 pounds per acre.

### Claim 7 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3 wherein R is chloromethyl, R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.2 is ethyl, and R.sup.3 is methyl.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6 wherein R is chloromethyl, R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.2 is ethyl, and R.sup.3 is methyl.

### Claim 9 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6 wherein R is chloromethyl, R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.2 is methyl, and R.sup.3 is ethyl.

### Claim 10 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6 wherein R is chloromethyl, R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl, vinyl, or phenyl, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl, and R.sup.3 is hydrogen or methyl.
