## CPC

- C07C 269/04: from amines with formation of carbamate groups
- C07C: ACYCLIC OR CARBOCYCLIC COMPOUNDS

## Abstract

A process for the preparation of aromatic urethans by reaction between aromatic amines and alkyl carbonates, said reaction being carried out in the presence of a catalyst composed of an alcoholate of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal. The reaction is caused to take place at a temperature which is variable from +50.degree. C. and +150.degree. C., in the liquid phase and with a molar ratio of the carbonate to the amine of from 10:1 to 1:10.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A process for the preparation of aromatic urethans comprising the step of reacting, at a temperature between about 50.degree. C. and about 150.degree. C., an aromatic amine with an alkyl carbonate in the presence of a catalyst selected from among the alcholates of alkali metals or alkaline earth metals.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A process as defined in claim 1 wherein the reaction is carried out in a liquid phase.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A process as defined in claim 1 wherein the molar ratio of the carbonate to the amine is between about 10:1 and about 1:10.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

A process as defined in claim 2 wherein the molar ratio of the carbonate to the amine is between about 10:1 and about 1:10.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A process as defined in claim 1 wherein the molar ratio of the catalyst to the amine is between about 1:1 and about 1:100.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

A process as defined in claim 4 wherein the molar ratio of the catalyst to the amine is between about 1:1 and about 1:100.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

A process as defined in claim 6 wherein the molar ratio of the catalyst to the amine is between about 1:5 and 1:20.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

A process as defined in claim 1 wherein the reaction is carried out at a temperature between about 100.degree. C. and about 140.degree. C.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

A process as defined in claim 1 wherein the reaction is carried out with an alkyl carbonate wherein at least one of the radicals contains more than one carbon atom.
