A compound selected from the group consisting of a macrolide of the formula:
- ##STR5## and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkanoyl having two to three carbon atoms and ethyl succinyl.
