Abstract
A process for producing a polyether carbonate surface active material having hydrocarbon residue at terminal thereof in an efficient manner, wherein an active hydrogen-containing compound which has a hydrocarbon residue containing 4 or more of carbon atoms and a five-membered ring carbonic acid ester are telomerized in the presence of an ate-complex of a metal of Group II,III or IV of the periodic table having at least two alkoxy groups.

A process for producing a polyether-carbonate surface active composition comprising
- contacting a carbonic acid ester of the formula ##STR2## in which R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 which are identical or different are each a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, with an active hydrogen compound which contains a minimum of 4 carbon atoms and at least one active hydrogen containing group selected from aryl and alkyl hydroxy, carboxylic acid and amino groups;
- in the presence of an ate-complex catalyst having at least two alkoxy groups of the formula
- M.sub.i.sup.+ [Z(OR).sub.n ].sup.i-
- in which:
- M is an alkali metal,
- Z is a metal of Group IIB, IIIA or IVA of the Periodic Table optionally bonded to alkyl or aryl groups
- R is an alkyl group
- i is 1 or 2
- n is 2 to 6
- at a temperature of about 60.degree. to 200.degree. C., to telomerize said carbonic acid ester with said active hydrogen compound.
A polyether-carbonate surface-active composition consisting essentially of the telomer represented by the formula ##STR3## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are identical or different and are each a hydrogen atom or a methyl group,
- RX is the residue of an active hydrogen-containing compound containing at least four carbon atoms which is selected from the group consisting of mono- and polyhydric alcohol, mono- and polycarboxylic acid and primary and secondary amine,
- i is an integer of 1 to 10,
- j is an integer of 1 to 10, and
- m is an integer having an average value of above about 1 to about 15.
A polyether-carbonate surface-active composition comprised of the telomer obtained by reacting a carbonic ester of the formula:
- ##STR4## in which R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 which are identical or different are each a hydrogen atom or a methyl group,
- with an active hydrogen compound containing a minimum of 4 carbon atoms of the formula:
- RXH,
- wherein RX represents the residue after reaction of the active hydrogen of a compound selected from the group consisting of mono- and polyhydric alcohol, mono- and polycarboxylic acid and primary and secondary amine,
- said telomer having a polyether carbonate structure of the formula:
- ##STR5## and including a random copolymer composed of units of the formula:
- ##STR6## and units of the formula:
- ##STR7## and having as a terminal group the residue RX of said active hydrogen compound,
- wherein RX, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are as defined above.
