Abstract
Mild oxidation of polyamine crankcase dispersants passivates basically reacting polyamine dispersants to fluorocarbon compositions used in engines.
Claims11
A process for improving the compatibility of a polyamine dispersant with fluorocarbon compositions which comprises reacting said dispersant with an oxidizing agent which is selected from the group consisting of oxygen, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, peroxides and ozone, wherein the amount of said oxidizing agent is effective to reduce the TBN of said dispersant by about 50% to about 90%.
The process as set forth in claim 7 wherein said oxidizing agent comprises air.
A process for improving the compatibility of a polyamine dispersant with fluorocarbon compositions which comprises reacting said dispersant with an oxidizing agent at a temperature from about 60.degree. to 300.degree. C., wherein said oxidizing agent comprises oxygen and the amount of said oxidizing agent is effective to reduce the TBN of said dispersant by about 50% to about 90%.
