## Abstract

This invention relates to novel nitramine propellant compositions for guns nd rockets.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A propellant composition, which comprises a particulate organic nitramine propellant and an effective amount for burn rate acceleration of a metal tetrahydridoborohydride of the following formula: Me(BH.sub.4).sub.x, wherein Me represents an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal and x is 1 when Me is an alkali metal and x is 2 when Me is an alkaline earth metal.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A propellant composition according to claim 1, wherein the metal tetrahydridoborohydride is present in amount up to about 20% by weight of the nitramine compound.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A propellant composition according to claim 1, which additionally contains a binder.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

A propellant composition according to claim 3, wherein a binder is present in amount up to about 50% by weight of the propellant composition.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A propellant composition according to claim 1, wherein the nitramine is at least one of the group consisting of 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazacyclohexane and 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetraazacyclooctane.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1, 5)

A propellant composition according to claim 1 or 5, wherein Me is at least one of the group consisting of lithium, sodium, potassium, beryllium, magnesium and calcium.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1, 5)

A propellant composition according to claim 1 or 5, wherein Me is sodium or magnesium.

### Claim 8

A method of increasing the burn rate of a nitramine propellant, which comprises incorporating therewith an effective amount for burn rate acceleration of a metal tetrahydridoborohydride of the formular Me(BH.sub.4).sub.x, wherein Me represents an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal and x is 1 when Me is an alkali metal and x is 2 when Me is an alkaline earth metal.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

A method according to claim 8, wherein the nitramine is at least one of the group consisting of 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazacyclohexane and 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetraazacyclooctane.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8, 9)

A method according to claim 8 or 9, wherein the metal is at least one of the group consisting of lithium, sodium, potassium, beryllium, magnesium and calcium.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8, 9)

A method according to claim 8 or 9, wherein Me is sodium or magnesium.
