Abstract
Agents for lowering glucose levels in blood having the formula: ##STR1## wherein each R, independently, is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkylcarbonyl or a group of the formula ##STR2## where R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 -alkoxy, halo or trifluoromethyl, and R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-3 alkyl, C.sub.1-3 alkoxy or halo, with the proviso that when one R is hydrogen, the other R is not hydrogen.
Claims11
A compound of formula I:
- ##STR26## wherein each R, independently, is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkylcarbonyl or a group of the formula ##STR27## where R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 -alkoxy, halo or trifluoromethyl, and
- R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-3 alkyl, C.sub.1-3 alkoxy or halo, with the proviso that when one R is hydrogen, the other R is not hydrogen.
A method of lowering glucose levels in blood plasma comprising administering to a mammal in need of such treatment a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of formula I:
- ##STR36## wherein each R, independently, is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkylcarbonyl or a group of the formula ##STR37## where R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 -alkoxy, halo or trifluoromethyl, and
- R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-3 alkyl, C.sub.1-3 alkoxy or halo, with the proviso that when one R is hydrogen, the other R is not hydrogen,
- said therapeutically effective amount being an amount effective for the lowering of blood glucose levels.
A method of treating diabetes by lowering the glucose levels in blood plasma according to claim 10 comprising administering to a diabetic host a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of formula I as defined in claim 12, said therapeutically effective amount being an amount effective for the treatment of diabetes.
