Abstract
A catalytic composite comprising a metal chelate mercaptan oxidation catalyst impregnated on a basic anion exchange resin is disclosed. The catalytic composite is particularly useful to effect the oxidation of mercaptans contained in a sour petroleum distillate.
Claims13
A regeneratable, gum resistant catalytic composite for sweetening a sour petroleum distillate, prepared by the method comprising:
- (a) washing a basic anion exchange resin with an alcohol, a ketone, or an aldehyde;
- (b) contacting said anion exchange resin with a metal chelate mercaptan oxidation catalyst and with an alcohol, water, or a mixture thereof, to produce a catalyst-impregnated basic anion exchange resin;
- and
- (c) drying said catalyst-impregnated anion exchange resin.
