Herbicidally active thiolcarbamates are employed in combination with certain N-methylcarbamoyloxy benzaldehyde imines having the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of chlorophenyl, chlorophenylthiomethylphenyl, acetoxy, and ##STR2## where R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of phenyl, pyridyl, and cyanomethyl, and n is zero or one. In a typical application, the imine is included in sufficient quantity to lessen the rate of soil degradation of the thiolcarbamate. As a result, the herbicidal effectiveness of the thiolcarbamate is enhanced and prolonged, rendering a single application of the herbicide effective over a longer period of time.
A compound having the formula ##STR14## in which R is selected from the group consisting of phenyl, pyridyl, and cyanomethyl, and n is zero or one.
An herbicidal composition of extended soil life comprising
An herbidical composition of extended soil life comprising an herbicidally effective amount of S-ethyl N,N-di-n-propylthiolcarbamate and an amount of an N-methylcarbamoyloxy benzaldehyde imine sufficient to extend the soil life of said thiolcarbamate, said imine having the formula ##STR22## in which R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of 3-chlorophenyl, 4-(4'-chlorophenylthiomethyl)phenyl, acetoxy, benzamido, pyridine-4-amido, anc cyanoacetamido, and
A method of controlling undesirable vegetation comprising applying to the locus where control is desired both
A method of controlling undesirable vegetation comprising applying to the locus where control is desired both an herbicidally effective amount of S-ethyl N,N-di-n-propylthiolcarbamate and an amount of an N-methylcarbamoyloxy benzaldehyde imine sufficient to extend the soil life of said thiolcarbamate, said imine having the formula ##STR28## in which R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of 3-chlorophenyl, 4-(4'-chlorophenylthiomethyl)phenyl, acetoxy, benzamido, pyridine-4-amido, and cyanoacetamido, and
A method of extending the soil life of a thiolcarbamate having the formula ##STR31## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are independently C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
A method of extending the soil life of S-ethyl N,N-di-n-propylthiolcarbamate which comprises applying to the soil containing said thiolcarbamate or to which said thiolcarbamate is to be applied an effective amount of an N-methylcarbamoyloxy benzaldehyde imine having the formula ##STR34## in which R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of 3-chlorophenyl, 4-(4'-chlorophenylthiomethyl)phenyl, acetoxy, benzamido, pyridine-4-amino, and cyanoacetamido, and
