Abstract
A defoamer comprised of silica having hydrophobic surfaces dispersed in a water insoluble hydrophobic organic liquid, wherein the silica has a surface area of no greater than 0.1 m.sup.2 /g and the hydrophobic silica comprises in excess of 25 wt. percent of the composition.

In a defoamer composition wherein hydrophobic silica is dispersed in a water insoluble hydrophobic organic liquid, the improvement comprising:
- said hydrophobic silica being present in an amount in excess of 25% and no greater than 65%, by weight, of the composition, and said hydrophobic silica having been prepared from a silica having a surface area of no greater than 0.2 m.sup.2 /g.
