## Abstract

Novel compounds of the formula I ##STR1## in which each of Y.sup.1 and Y.sup.2 independently represents a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom and each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having up to 10 carbon atoms, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 together represent an alkylene group having from 2 to 5 carbon atoms, may be converted by the action of base into the corresponding dihalovinylcyclopropane carboxylic acids.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A process for the preparation of a (cis)-dihalovinylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid of the formula: ##STR10## wherein each of Y.sup.1 and Y.sup.2 independently represents a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom and each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having up to 10 carbon atoms, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 together represent an alkylene group having from 2 to 5 carbon atoms which comprises treating a compound of the formula ##STR11## wherein Y.sup.1, Y.sup.2, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the above stated meanings, with a base.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, wherein the base is an alkali metal hydroxide, hydride or alkoxide.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

A process according to claim 2 wherein the base is an alkali metal hydroxide.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

A process according to claim 3 wherein the base is sodium hydroxide.
