New mitomycins are produced by synthetic processes. The compounds exhibit broad spectrum antibacterial activity and are useful as antibacterial agents.

A compound of the formula ##STR15## wherein Ya is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and when Ya is a hydrogen atom, X is an amino group, an hydroxy group or an alkoxy group having 1-4 carbon atoms and when Ya is a methyl group, X is an hydroxy group.
