1. Technical field
The present invention relates to a resinous unsaturated copolymer prepared by the random copolymerization of ethylene, propylene, or 4-methyl-1-pentene with a particular branched 1,4-diene.
It is well known that because of its excellent properties, a polymer consisting of ethylene or propylene only or a copolymer comprising ethylene or propylene and an .alpha.-olefin has been widely used in various fields.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a graph indicating certain results of Example C1 (curve 1) and Reference Example C1 (curve 2); and
FIG. 2 is a graph indicating certain results of Example C3 (curve 3) and Reference Example C2 (curve 4).
The unsaturated copolymer of the present invention has a structure in which ethylene units, propylene units, or 4-methyl-1-pentene units and comonomer units of formula (I') derived from a branched 1,4-diene of formula (I) are randomly arranged. ##STR3##
The content of the comonomer units (I') contained in the propylene or 4-methyl-1-pentene copolymer is 30 mole % or less, preferably from 0.01 to 20 mole %, more preferably from 0.05 to 10 mole %. The remainder consists essentially of propylene units or 4-methyl-1-pentene units. The content of the comonomer units (I') contained in the ethylene copolymer is 30 mole % or less, particularly from 0.01 to 20 mole %, preferably from 0.05 to 15 mole %, more preferably from 0.1 to 10 mole %. The remainder consists essentially of ethylene units.
This copolymer has a molecular weight of 500 g/10 min. or less, preferably from 0.001 to 200 g/10 min., more preferably from 0.01 to 100 g/10 min. in terms of the melt index, as measured according to the procedure of ASTM D1238.
