Abstract
This invention relates to novel cepham compounds of antimicrobial activity, useful as intermediates in the preparation of antibiotics, said novel cepham compounds being of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is phenyl (lower) alkanoylamino, phenoxy (lower) alkanoylamino or aminothiazolyl (lower) alkanoylamino substituted with a lower alkoxyimino group, R.sup.2 is carboxy or a protected carboxy group, R.sup.3 is formyl, hydroxymethyl or acyloxymethylene, and X is --S-- or --SO--, and its salt.

A compound of the formula:
- ##STR8## wherein R.sup.1 is phenyl (lower) alkanoylamino, phenoxy (lower) alkanoylamino or aminothiazolyl (lower) alkanoylamino substituted with a lower alkoxyimino group,
- R.sup.2 is carboxy or a protected carboxy group,
- R.sup.3 is formyl, hydroxymethyl or acyloxymethylene, and
- X is --S-- or --SO--,
- and its salt.
