Abstract
A method of improving the resistance of glass fibers to high temperatures which comprises treating the fibers with tetrahydrofuran-2, 3, 4, 5-tetracarboxylic acid to leach the fibers prior to the deposition of a refractory metal on their surfaces.
Claims10
A method of treating glass fibers to improve their resistance to high temperatures which comprises:
- a. contacting said fibers with tetrahydrofuran-2, 3, 4, 5-tetracarboxylic acid to produce leached fibers;
- b. contacting said leached fibers with colloidal silica;
- and
- c. contacting the fibers from step b. with an aqueous solution of the salt of a refractory metal to deposit said refractory metal salt thereon.
