A process for preparing m,m'-dinitrobenzophenone which comprises reacting benzophenone with nitric acid in oleum.

A process for preparing m,m'-dinitrobenzophenone which comprises reacting benzophenone with nitric acid in oleum wherein the weight ratios of benzophenone, sulfuric acid and sulfur trioxide in the feed are in the range of about 1:2:2 to about 1:15:4.
