Abstract
4-Isopropyltropolone having the formula: ##STR1## and/or the fatty acid esters thereof having the formula: ##STR2## (wherein R is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms) have the excellent skin-beautifying and anti-suntan effects and are usable as active ingredients for the skin-beautifying cosmetics. The fatty acid esters of 4-isopropyltropolone are novel substances.

A fatty acid ester of 4-isopropyltropolone represented by the formula:
- ##STR5## (wherein R is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms).
A skin-beautifying cosmetic composition containing as active ingredient an effective amount of 4-isopropyltropolone having the formula:
- ##STR6## and/or fatty acid ester thereof having the formula:
- ##STR7## wherein R is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, and a cosmetic carrier.
A skin-beautifying cosmetic composition containing a cosmetic carrier and as an active ingredient an effective amount of at least one member selected from the group consisting of 4-isopropyltropolone having the formula:
- ##STR8## a palmitic acid ester thereof or a stearic acid ester thereof.
A skin-beautifying cosmetic composition containing, as an active ingredient, an effective amount of 4-isopropyltropolone having the formula:
- ##STR9## and/or a fatty acid ester thereof having the formula:
- ##STR10## wherein R is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms;
- a cosmetic carrier and a sequestering agent wherein the sequestering agent is ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid in an amount approximately 0.01 to 0.05%, based on the total weight of the composition.
