Abstract
A new and improved process for the preparation of C-4' etherified anthracycline glycoside derivatives is provided. The new process involves fewer steps than the prior art process and gives the antibiotic end-products in higher yield.

A compound having the formula ##STR29## wherein X is bromine or iodine and R.sup.2 is tetrahydropyranyl, 6-acetoxymethyltetrahydropyranyl, 6-methoxytetrahydropyranyl, 6-carbomethoxytetrahydropyranyl, tetrahydrofuranyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyloxyethyl or cyclohexyloxyethyl, or an acid addition salt thereof.
