Abstract
Copolymers of acetylene are prepared by catalytic polymerization of mixtures of acetylene and heteroalkynes with Ziegler catalysts. The polymers may be used as pigments or as colored coatings on metal, glass or plastic.

A solid copolymer of acetylene and a heteroalkyne selected from the group consisting of chloro-ethyne, bromoethyne, fluoro-ethyne, trifluoro-methyl-ethyne, 2-propynenitrile, and 3-(methylthio)-propyne-1, said copolymer being produced by polymerizing a monomer mixture of acetylene and the heteroalkyne in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst.
