Abstract
A nematic liquid crystal compound adapted for the modulation of the transmitted or incident light and reproduction in color of numerals, symbols and images by electro-optical devices, the said compound having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 .dbd.Br--, Cl--, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 --, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 O--, n being 1 to 10, R.sup.2 .dbd.C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 --, n being 2 to 10, R.sup.3 .dbd.C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 --, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 O--, n being 1 to 10, R.sup.4 .dbd.C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 --, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 O--, n being 1 to 10.

A compound of the formula ##STR6## wherein R.sup.1 is C.sub.6 H.sub.13 where R.sup.2 is C.sub.7 H.sub.15 and R.sup.1 is C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 O--, where n is 4 to 6 and R.sup.2 is C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 -- where n is 4 to 7.
