Abstract
A bleaching composition comprises sodium hydrosulfite, hexamethylenetetramine and a water soluble sulfite such as sodium sulfite or ammonium sulfite, or further a polyphosphate such as a pyrophosphate or a tripolyphosphate and is used in bleaching pulp with a good bleaching effect with no substantial hydrogen sulfide generation.

A bleaching sodium hydrosulfite composition which minimizes H.sub.2 S generation in use and which comprises sodium hydrosulfite, 3 to 15% by weight of hexamethylenetetramine and 5 to 15% by weight of a water-soluble sulfite selected from the group consisting of sodium sulfite, ammonium sulfite and potassium sulfite.
