A continuous flow process for the delignification of lignocellulosic material, in which there is a throughput of lignocellulosic material through a delignification stage, with addition of delignifying chemicals at at least one location to the delignification, which comprises adding delignifying chemicals to the system in an amount so adjusted according to the ratio for the quantity of delignifying chemicals consumed and the quantity of the delignification chemicals originally charged that the relative consumption of delignifying chemicals is maintained substantially constant.
