Abstract
A colony stimulating factor effective in treating human granulocytopenia is produced by cultivating monocytes and macrophages isolated from the human peripheral blood in a synthetic medium for tissue culture containing a glycoprotein isolated from human urine and capable of stimulating the formation of human granulocytes or mouse macrophages and granulocytes.
Claims10
A method for producing a substance capable of stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of human granulopoietic stem cells, which comprises cultivating monocytes and macrophages, which have been separated from the human peripheral blood, in a synthetic medium for tissue culture containing a glycoprotein separated from the human urine and capable of stimulating human or mouse bone marrow cells to form human granulocytes or mouse macrophages and granulocytes, thereby producing a substance capable of stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of human granulopoietic stem cells in the medium, and recovering the active substance from the medium.
