Hydroalkylation catalyst and methods for producing and employing same

In a process comprising contacting an aromatic hydrocarbon feedstock under hydroalkylation conditions with a catalyst consisting essentially of a calcined, acidic, nickel and rare-earth exchanged crystalline zeolite, to produce a cycloalkyl aromatic product, the improvement comprising employing a catalyst which was calcined at a temperature which did not exceed 400.degree. C.
