Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polymers from polymerizable urethanes prepared by reacting isocyanates having at least two isocyanato groups with polyesters of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is alkylene having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms, A is an ethylenically-unsaturated radical, and n is an integer of from 1 to 100.
Claims40
A process for the preparation of polymers from polymerizable urethanes containing unsaturated groups and from olefinically unsaturated compounds, which comprises polymerizing (i) from about 40 to 100 percent by weight of urethanes prepared by reacting polyisocyanatoalkyl and/or polyisocyanatoaryl compounds with compounds of the formula ##STR11## wherein R=straight-chain hydrocarbon radicals having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms which may optionally be substituted by up to 5 methyl, ethyl and/or propyl groups, wherein all the radicals R within one molecule of the Formula I may be the same or different,
- A=an ethylenically unsaturated radical of one of the general formulae ##STR12## wherein R.sup.1 =H or CH.sub.3,
- R.sup.2 =a (p+1)-functional straight-chain or branched alkyl radical or a (p+1)-functional cycloalkyl radical, each having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms,
- R.sup.3 =a radical having the meaning of R.sup.2 when p=1,
- X=--O-- or --NR.sup.4 --,
- Y=--O--, --NH--, or --NR.sup.4 --,
- R.sup.4 =CH.sub.3 or C.sub.2 H.sub.5,
- n=an integer of from 1 to 100, and
- p=an integer of from 1 to 3,
- in such molar ratios that the numerical ratio of the isocyanato groups to the hydroxyl groups of the compounds of Formula I is from about 0.2:1 to 1:1, with (ii) from about 0 to 60 percent by weight of olefinically unsaturated compounds, by means of radical polymerization, in the presence of initiators.
A reactive adhesive mixture composition which comprises an admixture of:
- (i) from about 40 to 100 percent by weight of urethanes prepared by reacting polyisocyanatoalkyl and/or polyisocyanotoaryl compounds with compounds of the general formula ##STR13## wherein R=straight-chain hydrocarbon radicals having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms which may optionally be substituted by up to 2 methyl, ethyl and/or propyl groups, wherein all the radicals R within one molecule of the Formula I may be the same or different,
- A=an ethylenically unsaturated radical of one of the general formulae ##STR14## wherein R.sup.1 =H or CH.sub.3,
- R.sup.2 =a (p+1)-functional straight-chain or branched alkyl radical of a (p+1)-functional cycloalkyl radical, each having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms,
- R.sup.3 =a radical having the meaning of R.sup.2 when p=1,
- X=--O-- or NR.sup.4 --,
- Y=--O--, --NH--, or NR.sup.4 --,
- R.sup.4 =CH.sub.3 or C.sub.2 H.sub.5,
- n=an integer of from 1 to 100, and
- p=an integer of from 1 to 3,
- in such molar ratios that the numerical ratio of the isocyanato groups to the hydroxyl groups of the compounds of Formula I is from about 0.2:1 to 1:1, and
- (ii) from about 0 to 60 percent by weight of olefinically unsaturated compounds, by means of radical polymerization.
