Claims3
A compound having the general formula ##STR9## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different radicals selected from the group consisting of tertiary alkyl radicals having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl radicals having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms and R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are the same or different radicals selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, alkylene radicals having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms and aryl radicals having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms.
A process comprising reacting compounds having the general structural formula ##STR10## with compounds having the general structural formula ##STR11## reacting in the presence of a basic catalyst while dissolved in benzene solvent to yield aldehydes having the structural formula ##STR12## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different radicals selected from the group consisting of tertiary alkyl radicals having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl radicals having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and A is selected from the group consisting of chloro, bromo, and iodo, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are the same or different radicals selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, alkylene radicals having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms, and aryl radicals having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms.
