Abstract
Sulphonanilides of formula ##STR1## and salts thereof, wherein R.sup.1 represents alkyl or certain other groups; R represents alkylene or alkenylene; A represents --COOH, --COO alkyl, --CSSH, CN or certain related groups; or R-A represents a group of formula ##STR2## where R.sup.14 represents hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, B represents oxygen or ##STR3## R.sup.15 represents hydrogen or alkyl, and n represents 0, 1 or 2; and R.sup.2 -R.sup.6 represent hydrogen; alkyl, halogen or certain other groups, are pesticides and plant growth regulants, especially herbicides and fungicides.
Claims8
A compound which is a sulphonanilide of the formula ##STR96## or salt thereof, wherein R.sup.1 represents alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms;
- alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms substituted by one or more of halogen, and alkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms;
- R represents alkylene or alkenylene of up to 6 carbon atoms;
- A represents --CEGR.sup.9 where E and G are the same and each represents an oxygen atom;
- R.sup.9 represents alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms;
- alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms substituted by one or more of halogen, alkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms, hydroxy, amino and amino mono or di-substituted by groups selected from alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms and alkanoyl of 2-7 carbon atoms;
- phenylalkyl of 7-10 carbon atoms;
- phenylalkyl of 7-10 carbon atoms substituted on the phenyl nucleus by one or more of halogen, alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms, nitro, and trifluoromethyl;
- cycloalkyl of 3-7 carbon atoms;
- phenyl;
- or phenyl substituted by one or more of halogen, alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms, nitro, and trifluoromethyl;
- and
- R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom;
- alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms;
- alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms substituted by one or more of halogen, alkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms, hydroxy, amino and amino mono- or di-substituted by groups selected from alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms and alkanoyl of 2-7 carbon atoms;
- hydroxy;
- alkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms;
- nitro;
- a halogen atom;
- amino;
- amino or mono- or di-substituted by groups selected from alkyl of 1-15 carbon atoms and alkanoyl of 2-7 carbon atoms.
