Abstract
Phenoxypyridines of the formula (I) ##STR1## possess herbicidal activity. These compounds are prepared by reacting 2-halogeno-3,5-B,A-substituted pyridine with a 3,4-C,D-substituted phenol in the presence of a base and preferably in the presence of a solvent for the reactants at a temperature in the range from 50.degree. to 150.degree. C. and recovering the compound of formula (I).
Claims6
A phenoxypyridine of the formula (I):
- ##STR11## wherein each of A and B is a hydrogen atom, a fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, or a difluoromethyl, chlorodifluoromethyl or trifluoromethyl group, provided that at least one of A and B is a halomethyl group;
- C is a --COZ group wherein Z is a group --NR.sup.4 R.sup.5 wherein R.sup.4 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, or C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 alkenyl, and R.sup.5 is alkanesulphonyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms;
- and D is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, nitro or cyano.
N-methanesulphonyl 2-chloro-5-(3-chloro-5-trifluoromethylpyridyl-2-oxy)benzamide.
N-methanesulphonyl-2-nitro-5-(3-chloro-5-trifluoromethylpyri dyl-2-oxy)benzamide.
