Abstract
N-substituted benzothiazolines have been found to be effective herbicides and plant growth regulants. Said benzothiazolines are substituted with thiol esters.
Claims14
A compound having the formula ##STR15## wherein R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of phthalimido and COOR.sub.4 ;
- R.sub.4 is hydrogen or alkyl having from one to five carbon atoms;
- X is halo, and n is zero or one.
The compound which is S-(2'-quinolinyl) 2-oxo-3-benzothiazolineethanethioate.
A method for inhibiting the growth of undesirable plants which comprises applying to the plant system a herbicidally effective amount of a compound having the formula ##STR16## wherein R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of phthalimido and COOR.sub.4 ;
- R.sub.4 is hydrogen or alkyl having from one to five carbon atoms;
- X is halo, and n is zero or one.
A method for regulating the growth of leguminous plants which comprises applying to the plant system an effective, non-lethal amount of a compound having the formula ##STR17## wherein R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of phthalimido and COOR.sub.4 ;
- R.sub.4 is hydrogen or alkyl having from one to five carbon atoms;
- X is halo, and n is zero or one.
An agricultural chemical composition comprising from about 1 to about 99 parts by weight of a compound having the formula ##STR18## wherein R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of phthalimido and COOR.sub.4 ;
- R.sub.4 is hydrogen or alkyl having from one to five carbon atoms;
- X is halo, and n is zero or one;
- the remaining parts being comprised of one or more suitable carriers, diluents and/or adjuvants.
An agricultural chemical composition comprising from about 1 to about 99 parts by weight of S-(2'-quinolinyl)-2-oxo-3-benzothiazolineethanethioate;
- the remaining parts being composed of one or more suitable carriers, diluents and/or adjuvants.
