Abstract
A process for producing a laminate comprising a metal sheet having thermoplastic material on both sides thereof is described. The thermoplastic material is calendered to produce an upper thermoplastic sheet and a lower thermoplastic sheet. A metal sheet is fed into the nip between the calender rolls in order to contact the metal sheet simultaneously with the upper and lower thermoplastic sheets, thus producing a laminate. Processes for producing a pipe-wrapping material, a roofing structure and a solvent-welded joint are also provided.
Claims7
A process for producing a laminate comprising a metal sheet having chlorinated polyethylene composition on both sides thereof, said process consisting essentially of the steps of:
- I. calendering chlorinated polyethylene composition at 250.degree. F. to 350.degree. F. through the nip of a first roll and a second roll to produce an upper chlorinated polyethylene sheet adhering to the second roll;
- II. calendering chlorinated polyethylene composition at 250.degree. F. to 350.degree. F. through the nip of a third roll and a fourth roll to produce a lower chlorinated polyethylene sheet adhering to the third roll;
- III. feeding a metal sheet into the nip between the second roll and the third roll while contacting at 250.degree. F. to 350.degree. F. the upper chlorinated polyethylene sheet with the top of the metal sheet and while simultaneously contacting the lower chlorinated polyethylene sheet with the bottom of the metal sheet wherein the top and the bottom of the metal sheet have thereon a coating of an adhesion promoter, wherein the separation of the second and third roll is substantially equal to the sum of the thicknesses of the upper chlorinated polyethylene sheet, the metal sheet and the lower chlorinated polyethylene sheet.
A process for producing a laminate comprising a metal sheet having polyvinyl chloride composition on both sides thereof, said process consisting essentially of the steps of:
- I. calendering polyvinyl chloride composition at 300.degree. F. to 400.degree. F. through the nip of a first roll and a second roll to produce an upper polyvinyl chloride sheet adhering to the second roll;
- II. calendering polyvinyl chloride composition at 300.degree. F. to 400.degree. F. through the nip of a third roll and a fourth roll to produce a lower polyvinyl chloride sheet adhering to the third roll;
- III. feeding a metal sheet into the nip between the second roll and the third roll while contacting at 300.degree. F. to 400.degree. F. the upper polyvinyl chloride sheet with the top of the metal sheet and while simultaneously contacting the lower polyvinyl chloride sheet with the bottom of the metal sheet wherein the top and the bottom of the metal sheet have thereon a coating of an adhesion promoter, wherein the separation of the second and third roll is substantially equal to the sum of the thicknesses of the upper polyvinyl chloride sheet, the metal sheet and the lower polyvinyl chloride sheet.
