Abstract
Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a trihalomethyl group, an alkyl group, or a cyano group; Y is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; R is CHOHR' or COR'; and R' is hydrogen or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl; and compositions containing these compounds which exhibit herbicidal activity.

A compound of the formula:
- ##STR6## wherein X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a trihalomethyl group, a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl group, or a cyano group;
- Y is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom;
- R is a COR' group;
- and
- R' is (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl.
