Abstract
A cosmetic composition comprising as an essential ingredient a hydroxyalkyl-etherified glycolipid ester represented by the formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a methyl group or a hydrogen atom; R.sup.2 represents a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 11 to 15 carbon atoms when R.sup.1 is a methyl group, or a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 12 to 16 carbon atoms when R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom; A represents --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O-- or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O-- and ##STR2## R.sup.3 represents a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and a,b,c,d,e,f,g and h are each integers, whose sum ranges from 1 to 100.

In an aqueous cosmetic composition for the treatment of skin and hair, the improvement comprising the addition of from 0.1 to 100% by weight of the composition, as the moisturizing component, of a hydroxyalkyl-etherified glycolipid ester represented by the formula, ##STR9## wherein R.sup.1 represents a methyl group or a hydrogen atom;
- R.sup.2 represents a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 11 to 15 carbon atoms when R.sup.1 is a methyl group, or a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 12 to 16 carbon atoms when R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom;
- A represents --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O-- or combined with ##STR10## R.sup.3 represents a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms;
- and a, b, c, d, e, f, g, and h are each integers, whose sum ranges from 1 to 100.
