Abstract
When the reaction of aldehydes with alkali metal trihaloacetates is carried out in the presence of a highly polar aprotic solvent (DMF, DMSO), novel organic alkali metal carbonates, which are precursors of pyrethroid insecticides, are formed in high yields and at a high rate. Novel sulfonates and dihalophosphites, derived from these carbonates have also been claimed.
Claims6
A compound of the formula ##STR41## wherein R.sup.1 represents a 2-(2,2-dimethoxyethyl)-3,3-dimethylcyclopropyl group, a 2-hydroxycarbonyl-3,3-dimethylcyclopropyl group, a [2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-oxopropyl)cyclopropyl]methyl group or a 2-alkoxycarbonyl-3,3-dimethylcyclopropyl group in which the alkoxy substituent has fewer than five carbon atoms;
- R.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom;
- each Hal represents a chlorine or bromine atom;
- and R.sup.3 represents a group --PX.sub.2 in which X represents a chlorine or bromine atom.
