Abstract
2,5-dimethyl-2,5-hexanediol has proven to be an efficient mosquito repellent which has a persistent action and is water soluble. Repellency tests are reported and discussed.

A method of repelling mosquitoes comprising administering a mosquito repelling effective amount of a composition consisting essentially of 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-hexanediol and an inert carrier to a surface to be protected.
