Abstract
Compounds of the formula (II): ##STR1## wherein X is sulphur or oxygen and R is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, are useful for their antibacterial, .beta.-lactamase inhibitory activity and synergistic activity when combined with a penicillin or cephalosporin.
Claims30
A compound of the formula (II):
- ##STR9## wherein X is sulphur or oxygen and R is hydrogen or alkyl of 1-3 carbon atoms.
9-Isothiazol-5-yl-methylaminodeoxyclavulanic acid.
A method of treating bacterial infections in mammals including humans which comprises administering to such a mammal in need thereof an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of the formula (II):
- ##STR11## wherein X is sulphur or oxygen and R is hydrogen or alkyl of 1-3 carbon atoms in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
A pharmaceutical composition useful for treating bacterial infections in mammals including humans which comprises an antibacterially effective amount or a .beta.-lactamase inhibitory amount of a compound of the formula (II):
- ##STR12## wherein X is sulphur or oxygen and R is hydrogen or alkyl of 1-3 carbon atoms as the sole antibacterial or .beta.-lactamase inhibitory agent, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
A method of effecting .beta.-lactamase inhibition in mammals including humans which comprises administering to such a mammal in need thereof a .beta.-lactamase inhibitory amount of a compound of the formula (II):
- ##STR15## wherein X is sulphur or oxygen and R is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
